A contract manufacturer that resolves design ambiguities informally accepts responsibility for decisions it was never paid to make.

A drawing arrives with a dimension that cannot be held, a tolerance that conflicts, or an instruction that is unclear. The floor makes a sensible decision and continues.
Sensible is not the same as agreed
If the part is later disputed, the manufacturer is defending a decision it made unilaterally, however reasonable. The customer's position is that they specified something else.
Queries are also a commercial record
Customers whose drawings generate repeated queries are consuming engineering time that was not quoted. Recorded, that becomes a pricing conversation instead of an accepted overhead.
