Worked scenario

Images sent, balance outstanding, leverage gone

In photography the only leverage is the work itself, and delivering before payment converts a due invoice into a request.

3 min read

A shoot is completed. The client is eager to see the results. The photographer delivers, intending to collect afterwards.

Urgency evaporates on delivery

Before delivery, the client has a reason to settle. Afterwards, the invoice competes with everything else, and following up feels like chasing rather than completing a transaction.

Terms are easier at booking

Stated when the client is committing, payment stages are unremarkable. Introduced at delivery, they read as distrust — which is why they have to be set at the start or not at all.

What changes

  • Payment stage recorded against the booking
  • Delivery released against the agreed stage rather than by goodwill
  • Outstanding balances visible per shoot
  • Terms stated at booking and referenced at delivery
