Worked scenario
Accepted on the customer's figure and returned against ours
A job worker who does not weigh material in has accepted the customer's number as the baseline for every subsequent dispute.
3 min read
Job work runs on material the job worker does not own. Everything that follows depends on how much arrived.
The baseline is set on day one
Accepting the stated quantity without checking means any later shortfall is measured from a number the job worker never verified, and cannot now challenge.
Norms have to be agreed
Process loss is real and expected. Where the acceptable percentage is not agreed in advance, every return becomes a negotiation and the job worker generally concedes.
What changes
- Incoming material weighed and recorded independently
- Discrepancies against the challan raised on receipt
- Process loss measured against an agreed norm
- Returns reconciled to the recorded receipt, not the document
