Manufacturing and Industrial
Paper Manufacturing
Reel-based production where output is measured by weight, sold by size, and trimmed into waste at every conversion.

Also covers: Paper Mill · Board Manufacturing
About this industry
A paper mill buys pulp by weight and sells reels and sheets by dimension. Between the two sit trim loss, moisture and grade variation, none of which appear on an invoice. Mills that measure yield per reel know where their margin goes; mills that measure it per month know only that it went.
Common operational problems
- Trim loss is expected and rarely measured per order
- Moisture affects saleable weight and is not recorded against the batch
- Grade and GSM variation within a run produce complaints nobody can trace
- Reel identity is lost at conversion, so a complaint cannot be tied to a run
- Waste paper and broke are recycled without being valued
Example workflows
Reel identity carried from the machine through conversion to dispatch
Yield per order measured against input weight
Grade and GSM recorded per reel with the run parameters
Broke and trim recorded and valued rather than assumed
Customer complaints traced to a reel and a run
